Description

This Photo was taken already on the 3rd of may.

It shows the Fireworks Galaxy NGC 6946 and the very old open cluster NGC 6939. These objects are located between Cepheus and Cygnus, very close to the galactic plane. The view is therefore strongly restricted by gas and dust which makes distance measurement difficulty. Last results yield to 21 million lightyears for the Galaxy and 6000 ly for the cluster, but you can find different values.

I find it interesting that NGC 6946 ist champion for supernovae (not the well known M 82), 9 for the last 100 years.

The weather conditions during photographing where not good and I found the image processing very troublesome. On the upper left corner I needed some bad tricks to reduce a lightreflection as much as possible.

Very special for me on this picture is, that for my first time I imaged galactic dust, so called Galactic Cirrus, to be seen from the center of the photo to the right (east). And that makes me a little bit happy.
